Our local favourites

Because a great stay is also about great addresses, here are the local shops, artisans and tables we love and recommend to our guests. They are the very same ones as in our welcome book, tried and tested over the years. Say hello from us! ✨

🌸 Florists

🥖 Bakery, farm shop & butcher

  • L'Ami d'Ici: excellent bakery in Plouhinec, on rue du Général de Gaulle.
  • Les Couleurs du Ponant: market garden in Kerlon, Plouhinec, selling straight from the farm.
  • Le Verger de Kerbellec: in Brec'h, apples and pears from the orchard, seasonal fruit and vegetables, butcher's counter and local grocery. Well worth a visit.
  • Le Repaire des Goinfres: butcher and charcuterie in Belz. If you enjoy good meat, this is an excellent address.

🍷 Wine & fine grocery

  • Breizh en Bouche: Breton grocery and wine cellar in Plouhinec. Local produce, short supply chains and a fine selection of craft beers.
  • Cave Toké du 20: wine cellar and tastings in Sainte-Anne-d'Auray. If you like wine and charcuterie, try the little white wine from the Saint-Goustan vineyards.
  • Maison Le Franc: cheese, charcuterie and fine grocery in Pluneret. A treasure trove for cheese lovers: tell Marina and Éric we sent you.
  • La Belle Zic: delicatessen in the centre of Auray, the best of Breton produce and a few treats to take home.
  • Brasserie L'Étrille: craft beer brewed in Locmariaquer, to enjoy at the bar or take away.

🥞 Crêperies

  • Aux Galettes d'Antan: in Pluneret, a crêperie full of charm with a Belle Époque atmosphere. If you are lucky, you will hear Wilfried sing during your meal!
  • Le Clos Marine: in Plouhinec, set in a former stable from 1800. Thin, crisp galettes made with IGP Brittany flour, a buckwheat cider well worth trying, and truffle fries we cannot recommend enough!
  • Caramel & Sarrasin: in Plouhinec, on rue du Général de Gaulle. A simpler setting, and a good address too.
  • Crêperie La Goustanaise: crêpes and galettes in the heart of the Saint-Goustan quarter, in Auray.
  • Le Yac'h: Breton canteen and bar on the Saint-Goustan harbour in Auray. Service can be a little slow in high season, and booking is recommended.

🍽️ Our favourite tables

  • Tinell: restaurant in Auray, generous and creative cooking. Our favourite.
  • L'Épicerie: on place aux Roues in Auray, in a Belle Époque setting. The menu changes very regularly.
  • Ché Luz: on the quays in Étel, a good address for fish and seafood, facing the Étel bar.
  • Le Don K'Millo: in Locoal-Mendon, a stone's throw from "Je t'aime à l'italienne". Pizzas, pasta (the gorgonzola one is a favourite), burgers and daily specials.
  • Au Rigad'eau: wood-fired pizzeria at the Moulin de Pomper, between Arradon and Baden, right by the gulf. Live music on the terrace in summer.
  • Ma Bro, la cantine des matelots: in Port-Louis, generous, subtly spiced cooking with a view over the Lorient roadstead. A little noisy and sometimes slow in season, but genuinely lovely and full of flavour.
  • Derrière: in Vannes, on rue Porte Poterne, bistro cooking and a lovely terrace at the back.
  • L'Antiquaire: in Vannes, at the foot of the ramparts.
  • Le Poussin Masqué: in Vannes, on rue des Halles. Restaurant and tea room, with space to park a pushchair.
  • L'Antidote: wine bar and cellar in the heart of walled Vannes, for a very tasty aperitif.

🍰 Patisserie & sweet treats

  • Au Régal Breton: on rue du Belzic in Auray. Artisan ice creams, macarons and pastries, all delicious.
  • Maison Henri: on place Henri IV in Vannes. Their homemade lemonade is a real treat, as is the butter-and-sugar crêpe. JP would point you to the chocolate-banana one!
  • Toto: on rue de la Libération in Étel, our go-to ice cream by the estuary.

🦪 Seafood tasting

There are many oyster huts along the Étel estuary. These are our favourites.

  • L'esKale: our favourite, the tasting space of an oyster farm on the water in Locoal-Mendon. Oysters, mussels and chips, clams in parsley butter, all beautifully simple.
  • Dégustation Saint-Guillaume: in Plouhinec, run by two oyster-farming brothers. A seafood platter with a lovely view of the famous blue-shuttered house of Saint-Cado. Do book ahead.
  • La Simone: oyster farming and tasting in Saint-Philibert, between the bay of Quiberon and the Gulf of Morbihan.
  • Huîtres Larmor Ostrea: oyster bar right on the oyster farm, in Belz on the banks of the Étel estuary.

🎡 Family fun & on the water

  • Le P'tit Délire: play and nature park in Ploemel, enough to keep children busy for hours.
  • Forêt Adrénaline: treetop adventure, ziplines and net courses in the forest, 7 min from Carnac and Auray.
  • Ty Bagou: licence-free electric boat hire from Saint-Goustan, to explore the Auray and Bono rivers.
  • Le Moulin de Treuroux: in Brec'h, canoe and kayak hire on the Loc'h river, with crêpes on the terrace afterwards. A lovely outing.
  • Izenah Croisières: from Port-Blanc in Baden, the crossing to the Île aux Moines and tours of the gulf.
  • La Compagnie du Golfe: cruises in the Gulf of Morbihan departing from Vannes, with or without a stop on the islands.
